About Dr Edith Matsikidze

Qualifications: MBChB (University of Zimbabwe), MMED Radiotherapy and Oncology (University of Zimbabwe), Fellow, AIDS Malignancy Consortium (USA)

Dr Edith Matsikidze is a dedicated Clinical and Radiation Oncologist based in Harare, Zimbabwe. She is passionately focused on helping individuals access informed and structured cancer treatment. Her work is grounded in a heartfelt belief: cancer is not the end of life; it can be managed. If diagnosed early, the chances of cure and remission increase. Through her clinical practice, she offers cancer screening services as well as provides clarity, care, and a thoughtful plan to guide patients on their treatment options after a cancer diagnosis has been made. As an oncologist, she believes that early intervention and open communication can help remove the fear often associated with the word cancer.

She chose to specialise in oncology because she truly wanted to make a difference in cancer awareness and management by ensuring that everyone gets access to the best treatment possible. She noticed how fear and stigma can sometimes hold up the process of getting a diagnosis. This inspired her to pursue a rewarding career as a Clinical and Radiation Oncologist, a field that combines technical precision with meaningful, long-term clinical relationships with patients.

Throughout her career, she has enthusiastically embraced chances to broaden her knowledge through hands-on training experiences and exciting international collaborations. Dr Matsikidze has attended specialised workshops in paediatric neuro-oncology with  St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, USA and continued her training in paediatric radiotherapy through the International Atomic Energy Agency in Tunisia and at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She is a fellow of the AIDS Malignancy Consortium, USA.

When Dr Matsikidze is not working, she loves to dive into a good book, take refreshing swims, enjoy peaceful nature walks, and explore new places. These delightful moments of rest help her feel grounded and re-energised, preparing her for the meaningful work she does every day.
