SURVIVORSHIP CARE

You’ve likely completed your cancer treatments. Your tests may even show that there’s no active disease anymore. Friends and family might suggest that things should feel normal again, but what if they don’t quite feel that way for you? Cancer survivorship is so much more than just completing treatment. It’s a time when healing, monitoring, and adjustments truly take shape. At Matclinic Oncology Centre, we’re here to provide you with structured survivorship care, helping you navigate this exciting next phase with clarity and support.

Why is survivorship care important?

Survivorship care connects the dots between your active treatment and your long-term health journey. It extends beyond the last scan, providing support for your recovery while monitoring any changes that may impact your future well-being.

Your oncologist  might suggest survivorship care to:

  • Monitor for recurrence or late side effects
  • Support physical and emotional recovery
  • Coordinate follow-up tests or imaging
  • Help manage long-term symptoms
  • Provide guidance on lifestyle, diet, and medications
  • Communicate with other members of your medical team

This journey isn’t about fear; it’s about staying connected with your care team and being informed on what signs to look for and when to take action.

How often will you need follow-up appointments?

The timing of your follow-up schedule is influenced by the type of cancer you had, the treatment you received, and your individual risk for recurrence.

Our oncologist may suggest:

  • Visits every 3 to 6 months for the first 2 years
  • Annual reviews after that
  • Additional checks are made if new symptoms develop

When should you reach out between appointments?

Feel free to reach out anytime if you have concerns; you don’t have to wait for a scheduled visit.

Contact the clinic if you:

  • Feel unwell in a new or unexpected way
  • Notice a symptom you are unsure about
  • Need help managing side effects or medications
  • Are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or low
  • Unsure whether a new issue is treatment-related
